Recently I took computer delivered/based IELTS and scored 8.5 bands, journey wasn't very smooth but at the end rewards were sweet. I want to share the strategy that I followed, and hopefully it would help the future test takers. My strategy could be broken into following steps in the order: Set my target band score. I needed 8 bands in all sections, and that's what I set my target as. I found out where I stand today, I took a diagnostic test using www.writingbands.com. I scored 6.5 bands. If one can score 8 bands in writing, it's almost guaranteed that their score in other section will be equal to or greater than the writing score. I needed to fill the gap from 6.5 bands to 8 bands, so I started working towards it. I practiced every weekend, and again writingbands.com came in handy.
